Video Profiles:  The New Age of Blind Dating

Each time I get on a dating site, I think of all those scary criminal shows I see where a girl met a guy on a dating site and he turned out to be something else.  My fears were put to rest when I heard about Blind Cupids, an interracial dating site that lets you upload a video of yourself. That means you can’t use a photo of a celebrity or something you got off the internet. This has to be true, honest and solely about yourself.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went on the site and surfed through a few videos. I realized some people liked showing off their skills, others their sense of humor and a few, their pets. What struck me most was how each one was them was as real as the next. No editing or special effects, none of it was made up. 

As Blind Cupids is an interracial dating site, there is a large variety of videos you get see. I saw a few videos where the guys /girls were singing in their mother tongue. Even though I didn’t understand it I knew it was about love.  This particular video had a girl from the east wearing traditional attire while she recorded the video. This says so much, not only about the person but the site as well. It helps us understand and talk to interesting people from all over the globe.

 So after a lot of surfing and more time on the site, I decided to upload my video as well.  Within a few hours I had 4 guys from different places around the world, who had commented on my video and my profile. One of them challenged me to a game of Tetris and another wanted to chat. I was my first shot at interracial dating and I was enjoying it thoroughly.

In the last few weeks, I have spoken to so many people, played online games with a few and viewed a lot of profiles.  Even their blog, Contrast, is so informative and useful, especially for people who are trying interracial dating for the first time. This blog gives you basic advice on how you should approach someone, what not to say and how to take a conversation forward etc.

I never imagined there would come a point where I would be comfortable talking to someone on a dating site. But Blind Cupids has converted me. They give you the confidence in making friends and taking things forward with people from different countries and races. Because love is blind and you shouldn’t restrict yourself to a certain type. Let the world surprise you.
